Mac Jones could be poised to steal Daniel Jones' job

Against all odds and despite a plethora of major injuries, the San Francisco 49ers are 10-4 on the season.

Kyle Shanahan deserves his flowers and some strong consideration for Coach of the Year, but Mac Jones should also get plenty of credit. The Alabama product held down the fort in Brock Purdy's absence, and he looks like a strong candidate to get a starting job in 2026.

According to Dan Graziano of ESPN, he might even take Daniel Jones' job in Indianapolis.

Colts, Steelers could trade for Mac Jones

"There are plenty of teams with unsettled 2026 quarterback situations (Colts? Steelers?) which could look to a 27-year-old former first-round pick who has been through the Kyle Shanahan career rehab program as part of their potential solution," Graziano wrote.

The Indianapolis Colts seemed fully committed to Daniel Jones after his impressive revival under Shane Steichen.

Now, with him facing a long recovery after rupturing his Achilles, they might have no choice but to pivot, and Jones would make perfect sense as a stopgap at the position.

As for the Pittsburgh Steelers, they have been reluctant to blow up the roster and go through a rebuild, so it wouldn't be shocking to see them go after Jones. He may not be a great fit for Arthur Smith's offense, however, and the Steelers don't have nearly as many weapons as the Colts.

Still, Jones is a fierce competitor, and with so many stories of success and reclamation projects breaking out after years of struggles, someone will give him the keys to the offense next season.
