As per Elliotte Friedman and a couple of other reputable sources, Mason Marchment is being dealt from Seattle to Columbus. The deal comes in under the wire of the NHL roster freeze on Friday night.

Trade details, per sources: To the Blue Jackets: F Mason Marchment. Going back to the Kraken: 2027 Blue Jackets 2nd Round Pick and 2026 Rangers’ 4th Round Pick.

The trade ends growing speculation around the Seattle Kraken forward. Several sources recently noted trade talks had intensified, with frequent discussions between Seattle and interested teams coming close to completion. Dallas was potentially in the mix, as were the Toronto Maple Leafs. While nothing was initially imminent, the market ultimately dictated the move and the Blue Jackets stepped up ahead of the roster freeze.

Seattle, already last in the NHL in goals scored, faced challenges moving another veteran forward but had limited options as the season slipped away. Despite modest production this year, Marchment’s size, physical edge, and playoff experience made him appealing.

In the final year of his deal with a $4.5 million cap hit, he also fit the profile of a movable asset. Columbus is betting Marchment’s struggles were more situational than permanent, hoping a new environment helps him rediscover his offense. The Blue Jackets were not necessarily on anyone’s radar when it came to Marchment. It will be interesting to see if they look to extend the forward.
