Bears stun Packers, take control of NFC North with miraculous comeback

The first of back-to-back Saturdays with NFL games was capped off with one of the games of the year.

That may seem crazy considering the final score of 22-16, but it was a highly entertaining game that ultimately saw the Chicago Bears come away with a statement win over the Green Bay Packers in overtime.

The play that changed the game

With the Bears trailing 16-9 and needing to recover an onside kick to even get the ball back and have a chance to tie the game. That is exactly what happened, as Packers' receiver Romeo Doubs muffed the onside kick, allowing a Chicago recovery and giving Caleb Williams a chance to take his team down the field. The successful onside kick was just the fifth in 48 tries across the NFL this season.

Williams did just that and connected with undrafted rookie Jahdae Walker to force overtime. The touchdown for Walker was the first catch of his NFL career.

Caleb Williams ices it to DJ Moore

After a turnover on downs from Green Bay, Chicago needed just a field goal to secure a win that would put it in complete control of the NFC North. Williams decided he wanted more than just those three points, though, and delivered one of his best throws of the season.

On 1st-and-10 from the Packers' 46-yard line, Williams delivered a majestic deep-ball, connecting with DJ Moore for a touchdown that sealed the game for the Bears. The win gave Chicago full control in the division and left it needing just one win in its final two games to clinch its first division championship since the 2018-19 season.

Still a tough road ahead

As we noted above, Chicago controls its own destiny to a division crown. That won't come easy, though, as it still has games against the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions

Losses in both of those games, combined with three straight wins by Detroit and another loss by the Packers, would mean the Lions wind up as the NFC North champions.

It is just another twist to what has been one of the wildest NFL seasons in recent memory.
