He doesn’t like his government name. I called him that and then he grabbed me and ripped my shirt. I’m a little shocked. Like everyone’s talking to me. I’m a little rattled, but I just want the Lions to win, baby."

The fan claimed that all he said to the wide receiver was his full, government name, and that caused Metcalf to react the way he did. That could certainly be the case, but if an NFL player is throwing a punch at a fan, it is safe to assume that something more was said. The news outlet claimed that Metcalf originally came over to the fans because someone was holding his jersey, and the fan berated him from there.

The officials did not see Metcalf's actions, so no flag was thrown on the play and the wide receiver could not be ejected from the contest. There is no doubt that he will have some consequences coming his way, potentially from both the team and league. A fine is a certainty, while a suspension is also a possibility. It could be a one-game suspension or it could be a two-gamer that would keep him out for the rest of the regular season.
