Just how costly will DK Metcalf's altercation with a fan be?
The former Seattle Seahawks star punched a Detroit Lions fan during Sunday's win and was suspended for two games without pay.
On top of a loss of $555K in game checks, Metcalf's future contract guarantees could potentially be voided, as he was fined for "conduct detrimental to the NFL."
That meant the Pittsburgh Steelers could essentially release him without financial repercussions, with Metcalf losing $45 million in guaranteed money.
Per NFL Network's insider Tom Pelissero, that's not going to be the case. Both parties are happy with their partnership, and they intend to stay together for years to come.
"DK Metcalf’s $45 million in guarantees void as a result of his two-game suspension — but sources say the Steelers have already reaffirmed their commitment to Metcalf for 2026 and beyond. Both sides are moving forward together," Pelissero wrote on X.
Metcalf is the team's primary pass-catcher. Even so, his production with Aaron Rodgers has left plenty to be desired so far.
Now that he will be forced to watch the final two games of the regular season from the sidelines, he will conclude his first year with the organization with 59 catches on 99 targets for 850 yards and six touchdowns, according to Football Reference.
The Steelers will probably have a new quarterback behind center next season, and while they still need to add more firepower to the passing game, it seems like they think Metcalf can be their primary weapon.
