Cowboys RB Javonte Williams brings the boom on Christmas against Commanders

Kids who want to learn how to use the truck stick in the video game "Madden NFL" should watch what Dallas Cowboys running back Javonte Williams did against the Washington Commanders on Christmas.

On Dallas' first drive against Washington, Williams lowered his shoulder and trucked cornerback Mike Sainristil, picking up nine yards on a 1st-and-10. The play extended the drive, which ended with quarterback Dak Prescott tossing a six-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jake Ferguson.

Now, kids who received "Madden NFL" for Christmas, take notes and hop on an Xbox or PlayStation and try that move out.

That's not the only way Williams has brought the boom for the Cowboys in 2025. The fifth-year RB has revived his career in Dallas, powering the team's rushing attack. That's giving the organization something to consider this offseason.

Javonte Williams is showing why Cowboys should re-sign him

Williams, who suffered a career-threatening ACL/LCL tear in his second season with the Denver Broncos in October 2022, signed a one-year, $3M deal with the Cowboys this offseason. The move was initially panned, but it has proved to be a bargain for Dallas.

Entering the Cowboys' road matchup against the Commanders, Williams ranked sixth in the league in rushing yards (1,147) and was tied for seventh in rushing touchdowns (10). The North Carolina product also had 35 receptions for 137 yards and two touchdown catches.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has hinted that they want to retain 2021 second-round pick Williams. To do that, they must clear more cap space. Spotrac estimates the Cowboys will be $36.77M over the cap this offseason. Williams' projected market value is a three-year deal worth $7.4M annually.

Restructuring Prescott's contract would clear more room ($30.96M, per Over the Cap). He'd certainly be willing to do that, especially if it helps the Cowboys keep a productive power back in Williams.
