The Los Angeles Rams rallied from a 24-3 deficit, but could not complete the comeback in a crushing 27-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons as quarterback Matthew Stafford's MVP case took a major blow.
Here are four takeaways from the final "Monday Night Football" game of the NFL season.
Stafford has had a career year and has certainly played at an MVP level throughout the season. That was not the case in Monday night's stunning loss to the 7-9 Falcons, going 22-of-38 for 269 yards with two TDs and three interceptions.
This brutal pick-six from safety Jessie Bates III in the second quarter summed up Stafford's night in just one play.

Stafford picked a poor time to turn in this type of performance, especially considering New England Patriots QB Drake Maye's historic play from Sunday. A banged-up offensive line and a second consecutive missed game from Davante Adams, the league-leader in receiving TDs (14), did not help Stafford, but that is not what you want to see from an MVP front-runner this late in the season, especially with Maye seemingly hitting his stride as the postseason approaches.
The Falcons had 345 yards of offense Monday night, 229 of which were from Robinson. He simply could not be stopped, and this 93-yard TD run prior to the half blew the game open at the time for Atlanta.

According to ESPN's Field Yates, Robinson joins Hall of Famer Jerry Rice as the only two players with 200 or more scrimmage yards in back-to-back "MNF" games.

The Falcons tried everything they could to give the game away and spoil Robinson's huge effort. In the end, they escaped, and Robinson was the main reason why, as he continues to show why he is one of the top running backs in the league.
Despite Stafford's struggles and the Rams' inability to slow down Robinson, linebacker Jared Verse blocked a 37-yard field-goal attempt from Falcons kicker Zane Gonzalez and returned it for a TD to trim Atlanta's lead to seven late in the third quarter.

While the Rams (11-5) tied the game at 24 and nearly completed the comeback, the blocked field goal ultimately did not matter. However, that is exactly the type of play a team needs to establish some momentum, and Verse did his part when nothing was going right for the Rams.
The rookie safety picked off Stafford twice on Monday night and now has the most interceptions (five) by a rookie this season. His second pick halted the Rams' drive on fourth down with just over nine minutes remaining and nearly went to the house.

If the Falcons can win their fourth straight in Sunday's finale against the New Orleans Saints, the Panthers would be guaranteed the NFC South title even with a loss to the Buccaneers. The Falcons may be eliminated from playoff contention, but they will still play a major role in deciding who represents the NFC South.
