Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes put together a solid 2026 class, and they're already doing the same on the 2027 recruiting trail.
In fact, on Monday, the Buckeyes landed one of the top overall recruits in the 2027 class. In some rankings, he's actually the very best.
David "DJ" Jacobs is a 6-foot-5, 225-pound EDGE from Roswell, Georgia (Blessed Trinity Catholic). According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, he's the No. 8 overall recruit in the country and the top EDGE prospect.
The 247Sports only rankings are even higher on him, to say the least. In fact, they consider him the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2027 cycle.
It's early on in the cycle to make a commitment, but with nearly 40 offers to his name, Jacobs has been busy taking it all in on the recruiting trail.

“I’ve been thinking about this decision a lot lately,” Jacobs told Rivals on Monday. “I’ve been everywhere and I’ve seen everything. This season, I was all over the country taking visits, and every visit was basically like an official visit for me. As the season went on, I started thinking about committing early more and more, and I made my mind up.”
He took an unofficial visit to Columbus in late November, and that really ended up sealing the deal for the Buckeyes.
“I love everything about Ohio State,” Jacobs said. “I was there for the Rutgers game and that visit really blew me away. The coaches, the players, and the atmosphere made a big impact on me. I knew about Ohio State and had been following them for a long time, but that visit showed me a lot.”
Notably, Jacobs is a Georgia legacy recruit. His father was a defensive lineman for the Bulldogs from 1999 to 2002. It's also worth noting that Jacobs is not necessarily shutting things down despite the commitment.
Miami, Texas A&M and Georgia were also in the running for his commitment, and he's planning on taking official visits in the fall of 2026.
"Recruiting is never over, so we’ll see who really wants me and who will fight for me," he said. "Ohio State is a top program. Miami is a great school and I feel very valued by them. You have Georgia and A&M too.”
That can't be overly fun for Day and his staff to hear, but the 5-star recruit is right. The Buckeyes are a top college football program, and they've been landing top recruits for years.
If they really want to keep their commitment, Day and the Buckeyes will absolutely put in the work.
