Anthony Edwards storms off the court early during blowout loss

Anthony Edwards did not exactly get the best end to his 2025.

Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves were blown out on Wednesday by the Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Ga. While Edwards finished with a team-high 30 points on 10/18 shooting, Minnesota was still embarrassed by a final score of 126-102.

With 7:52 left in the fourth quarter, the Timberwolves took a timeout as they were trailing 109-80. In the middle of that timeout though, Edwards suddenly tossed his towel in the air and stormed off the court to the locker room.

Chris Hine of the Minnesota Star Tribune reports that it appears Edwards was ready to continue playing. However, Minnesota head coach Chris Finch pulled the starters and emptied the bench coming out of the timeout, seemingly leading to Edwards’ outburst.

The former No. 1 overall pick Edwards, 24, is an Atlanta native. Even if the game was already long decided by that point, it looks like Edwards wanted to keep playing for as long as possible in front of his hometown crowd.

Edwards entered play Wednesday averaging 29.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists a game for the Timberwolves (who fell down to sit sixth in the West at 21-13 with the defeat to Atlanta). But it has been a frustrating last several days for Edwards, who also get ejected during a Christmas Day loss to Denver and proceeded to deliver a vulgar message to the referees.
