The upcoming "Sunday Night Football" matchup between the 9-7 Pittsburgh Steelers and the 8-8 Baltimore Ravens could be massive for reasons that go beyond the fact that the winner will enter the playoffs as champions of the AFC North, while the loser will see its season end.
Some think either Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin or Baltimore's John Harbaugh could begin a new chapter, depending on how the contest unfolds, later this month. Additionally, quarterback Aaron Rodgers may retire shortly after the Steelers play their final game of the campaign.
While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey suggested he wants to ensure that Rodgers has to begin thinking about his future next week.
"We have to match that tempo. He's going to come out there and give his guys great opportunities to get the ball and put it in places where it's very hard to defend," Humphrey said about Rodgers, per Clifton Brown and Ryan Mink of the Ravens' website. "It doesn't matter who you're guarding, who's out there, you've got to be on your p's and q's. Great player, but we would definitely like to have his last memory be a negative one."
For what it's worth, Rodgers declined on Wednesday to publicly reveal his plans for beyond this season. During the summer, the 42-year-old teased that he could spend at least two campaigns with the Steelers.
Meanwhile, he completed 23-of-34 passes for 284 yards and a touchdown in Pittsburgh's 27-22 Week 14 win in Baltimore. He also rushed for a score in that game.
"That first game we were like, 'He done turned the clock back,'" Humphrey added. "He hadn't been that spot on, but he threw some great passes. He really etched himself into the rivalry well."
As of Thursday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Ravens as 3.5-point road favorites against the Steelers. Such a line shows that certain insiders feel Rodgers won't be able to once again turn the clock back and lead Pittsburgh to a postseason berth.
