New York Jets linebacker Quincy Williams is on track to reach free agency when the new league year opens in March.
While Williams is open to re-signing with the Jets, it sounds like he isn't interested in doing Gang Green any favors later this year.
"I haven't heard anything, haven't really talked to them or nothing," Williams said about his future with the Jets during a recent chat with Al Iannazzone of Newsday. "If they make the right moves and stuff like that, I would love being part of the Jets. I’m not like I was last year, betting on it because my brother ain't here. So it ain't like no brother discount. It ain't no family discount, none of that."
Williams was referencing how first-year Jets general manager Darren Mougey acquired assets for defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, Quincy's brother, and for cornerback Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner ahead of the Nov. 4 trade deadline. Those moves suggested that a Jets side that has since fallen to 3-13 was embracing an "out with the old, in with the new" mentality.
Meanwhile, recent reports have hinted that Jets owner Woody Johnson plans to give Mougey and first-year head coach Aaron Glenn at least one more offseason to reshape the franchise's roster.
"It's not one of those things where I'm going to bet on the Jets," Quincy Williams explained, “but if they make the right moves and stuff like that… like I understand AG's message, so I do like that part. It's just making sure upstairs and downstairs are aligned."
Quincy Williams has featured for the Jets since 2021, but he could play his final game with the franchise when New York ends its season with a matchup at the Buffalo Bills (11-5) this coming Sunday.
"I thought about it a couple of times," Quincy Williams said about the possible end of his Jets tenure. "But for the most part, I’m just hanging out with the guys. I ain't really thought about it as much, though, just because I'm still in it. …And then also talking to AG too, just like having that mindset also, like what’s the plan for next year, hearing about that too, just in case upstairs does something that I would like."
It remains to be seen if Mougey will make Quincy Williams happy regarding an offer before the new league year opens in March.
