Sean Payton had the grouchiest comments about New Year's Eve

Hopefully you kept off Sean Payton’s lawn with your New Year’s Eve celebrations this year.

The Denver Broncos head coach Payton spoke with reporters on Wednesday ahead of the team’s regular season finale against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. During the session, Payton was asked about his plans for New Year’s Eve and delivered an extremely grumpy response.

“I didn’t know it was New Year’s Eve,” said Payton. “[It’s] the most overrated holiday, honestly. Like, seriously, I didn’t know it was New Year’s Eve.

“What’s interesting as we get older and you’re coaching younger players, these guys are much more in tune to their bodies,” Payton added. “Today’s generation doesn’t drink as much.”

Payton, who has led the Broncos to an elite 13-3 record this season, is 62 years old now. As someone who has thus been seeing New Year’s Eve celebrations since at least the 1960s, you can probably forgive Payton for not being as enthused about the holiday these days.

That said, though, Payton could have at least pretended to be a bit more in the spirit of the season there. Even Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones (who is over 20 years the senior of Payton) has had a little more fun during New Year’s celebrations of the past.
