Sweet snacks for sweet sacks: How Browns DE Myles Garrett is celebrating NFL sacks record

After breaking the NFL record for sacks in a season, Myles Garrett should pop open a bottle of champagne, but the Cleveland Browns defensive end has less expensive taste.

"Probably with some pizza and some ice cream," Garrett said when asked how he would celebrate logging his 23rd sack in a 20-18 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

But before chowing on pizza and ice cream, Garrett celebrated with his teammates and parents at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati after securing one of the hardest-fought sacks of his career. The Bengals clearly didn't want him to break the record, as they double-teamed him throughout the game. That still couldn't stop him from making history late in the fourth quarter.

Myles Garrett discusses breaking the sack record

"It was everything I expected," Garrett said of sacking Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. "It was tough. I knew they were going to make it difficult, but [shoot], I don't think I saw more than three singles on a real drop back the whole game. I just knew that if I did, I'd have to make it count. And the feeling couldn't be better."

The feeling wasn't great for former New York Giants DE Michael Strahan, the previous record holder. He had 22.5 sacks in 16 games during the 2001 season. Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt tied that mark in 15 games during the 2021 season.

"I mean, I hold the record for the 16-game season," Fox analyst Strahan joked in a postgame show. "This young man is amazing, absolutely amazing. And I know that he has so many more sacks left in him; he's 30 years old. ... I think he's just getting going, he's finding his stride."

Garrett agrees. That's why he's aiming even higher after breaking the record.

"Find your dreams come true," Garrett said while playing rapper Kanye West's "I Wonder" from the podium. "Been waiting my whole life, my whole football career. I knew I had it in me. I wanted that 25 [sacks]. They made it real difficult these last two games, especially, but really these last three. That'll be the next journey, trying to go out there and get 25."

Until then, Garrett can revel in his accomplishments with Breyers and Pizza Hut. He can buy all the pints and 12-inch pies he wants after agreeing to an endorsement deal with Jordan Brand, synonymous with No. 23.
