The Texas Tech Red Raiders have a new gunslinger.
As reported by multiple outlets, former Indiana and Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby has formally committed to Texas Tech after entering the transfer portal.
That leaves Lane Kiffin and LSU scrambling to find a new quarterback after making Sorsby their top priority.
Coach Kiffin even reportedly had offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., who's still at Ole Miss during the playoffs, fly to Baton Rouge to meet with Sorsby in a recruiting attempt.
As aggressive as that approach may have been, ESPN insider Pete Thamel revealed that the Sorsby was "blown away" by the Red Raiders.
"Sorsby’s decision to go to Texas Tech comes after the Red Raiders’ aggression in the transfer portal led to the school’s first-ever Big 12 title. Sorsby was blown away by Texas Tech’s facilities and appreciated the culture set there by the coaching staff," Thamel wrote on X.
Sorsby was one of the highest-ranked players entering the transfer portal this offseason.
He's coming off throwing for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns and five interceptions for the Bearcats. He will now join a 12-2 Texas Tech team that rallied behind Behren Morton to make their playoff run.
As for the Tigers, they will have to find a new signal-caller, as Garrett Nussmeier is projected to declare for the NFL Draft and Michael Van Buren Jr. entered the portal for the second consecutive season.
Kiffin has yet to make his debut at Baton Rouge, but he's already been dealt his first major loss.
