Warriors eyeing trade for an All-Star ahead of deadline

When it rains, it pours for the Golden State Warriors. Things were already tough in the Bay Area, and losing Jimmy Butler for the season may have doomed their aspirations for good.

If that weren't bad enough, Jonathan Kuminga's situation with the team might not be sustainable for much longer. Considering that, GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. might have something big in the works. In fact, he might be cooking the biggest transaction of his young career as an executive.

According to ClutchPoints insider Brett Siegel, the Warriors are looking to get Andrew Wiggins back on the team, although not for long. If anything, that would be the first move to make a run at Anthony Davis or Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Warriors want to make a move for an All-Star

"When discussing this Wiggins-Kuminga swap scenario with rival front offices, many tend to believe that such a move could be a precursor for the Warriors to make an even greater move before the Feb. 5 deadline," Siegel wrote. "Although Dunleavy and the Warriors have pushed back at the notion of trading Butler following his injury, league personnel believe trading for Wiggins could be a part of a larger scheme for Golden State to move Butler for either Anthony Davis or Giannis Antetokounmpo."

Both Davis and Antetokounmpo will be sidelined for weeks after the Feb. 5 trade deadline. Giannis has reportedly let the Milwaukee Bucks know that it's time to find a new home, and Warriors owner Joe Lacob has kept tabs on him for years.

As for Davis, the Mavericks would probably gladly pull the plug on this failed experiment after watching him miss more games than he's played since the Luka Doncic trade.

The Warriors have been reluctant to give up first-round picks in trade talks. But with Stephen Curry entering the back end of his career and their championship window closing, it might be time to get creative and swing for the fences.
