Aaron Rodgers was noncommittal about his future in the NFL. The 42-year-old admitted at the start of this season that this was probably his last year.
However, he played at a high enough level to run it back for at least another campaign. More than that, it seems like everyone inside the Steelers building wants him back as well. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Steelers and their players want him to return, although Mike Tomlin's departure might make that difficult.
"The Pittsburgh Steelers remain open to an Aaron Rodgers reunion in 2026, even though it's unlikely because of Mike Tomlin's resignation," Schefter wrote.
Schefter said that the support for Rodgers in the locker room is "universal."
"Almost all Steelers players praised Rodgers during their exit interviews, and most if not all of them want the veteran quarterback to return in 2026. His support amongst players was universal, and those around the organization pointed out how beloved and respected Rodgers was there," the report added.
The former MVP completed 65.7 percent of his passes for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Those numbers would probably be right around most starters' averages, but clearly aren't up to Rodgers' standards.
There's plenty of uncertainty regarding the Steelers and their plans for the post-Tomlin era. But even though they might be better off just blowing up the roster and rebuilding, their determination to bring Rodgers back suggests otherwise. Now, Rodgers' decision might depend on who they get to take the reins of the team.
