Ja Morant's stance on a trade is more trouble for the Grizzlies

Ja Morant's future has been one of the NBA's main storylines this season.

He didn't seem to be on the same page with coach Tuomas Iisalo, and the same was true of his predecessor, Taylor Jenkins.

His injury issues, off-the-court scandals and power struggles took a big toll, to the point where the Grizzlies were finally considering moving on from him. There doesn't seem to be much of a market for his services, though, and his recent comments about a potential trade might not do much to help.

Ja Morant doesn't want to be traded

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the former No. 2 pick doesn't want to be traded.

”Asked Ja Morant after his huge game in London about his immediate future and he said that the Grizzlies’ team logo he has tattooed on his back 'should tell you exactly where I want to be,'” Stein wrote. ”'If anybody here knows me,' Ja says, 'I’m a very loyal guy.'”

Of course, he doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract, so it's not like he's going to have the final say on any of this.

Then again, given his reputation, teams were already hesitant to make a move for him and his big contract. Add the fact that he may not want to play for another team to the mix, and that only spells more trouble.

Morant has been outspoken about his desire to run the offense a certain way, regardless of what the coaching staff says.

He has seemingly lost some bounce after all the injuries, failing to be the same high-flying poster dunker he was earlier in his career.

With more than $86 million coming his way in the next two years, it's hard to believe many teams will be lining up to trade for him. And, after watching Trae Young be traded for two players and no picks, Morant might not have much more value in the trade market right now.
