The Miami Dolphins have a new regime in place.
They seem to be putting together a Green Bay Packers branch in South Florida, as they hired Packers executive Jon-Eric Sullivan to be their new GM and defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley to serve as their head coach.
As such, it wouldn't be crazy to think that they could also lure Matt LaFleur's backup quarterback to the AFC East.
Malik Willis is about to become a free agent, and with all the uncertainty around Tua Tagovailoa, he may have emerged as a candidate to take the reins of the offense.
The Dolphins benched Tagovailoa amid a turnover-riddled season. Rookie Quinn Ewers showed some promise in three starts, completing 66.3 percent of his passes for 622 yards, three touchdowns and three picks.
Still, there were major doubts about his mechanics and accuracy when he came out of Texas, and the Dolphins might not be entirely sold on him.
Enter Willis, a former sleeper to be the Tennessee Titans' quarterback of the future, who finally broke out after joining the Packers.
Willis showed signs of promise last season, making seven appearances and leading the team to a 2-0 record as a starter.
He picked up things where he left them this season, subbing in for the injured Jordan Love. In four appearances, he completed 30-of-35 passes for 422 yards and three touchdowns, adding 22 carries for 122 yards and two scores.
Willis is a privileged athlete who can make plays with his legs, giving the team the mobility they lack in their current quarterback room.
He's just 26 years old, and while the Dolphins are already paying Tagovailoa a lot of money, Willis could be a safe bet on a mid-tier, three-year deal.
