To say that the New York Mets got off to a rocky offseason would be a bit of an understatement.
They lost star closer Edwin Diaz and homegrown star Pete Alonso in the span of two days, just weeks after their inexplicable late-season collapse.
Then, GM David Stearns stepped up and got to work, and it's safe to say that the fans have changed their tone about the team.
That's why team owner Steve Cohen took to social media to troll the fans.
A Mets fan tweeted at Cohen with a proposal for their uniforms, and the post, surprisingly, made its way to the owner.
"If this is truly a new era for the Mets I think we need to get rid of the pinstripes and bring back the snow whites. Leave the pinstripes to those guys across town," the fan wrote on X.
"I guess it’s better that fans are complaining about the uniforms than the team," Cohen replied.
Given all the backlash the front office has faced over the past year or so, Cohen certainly had a right to clap back.
The Mets deserve plenty of credit for the way they've bolstered the roster in the past couple of weeks. They added Gold Glove winner Luis Robert Jr. to address their defensive issues, a workhorse in Freddy Peralta to bolster their rotation and one of the most-coveted free agent bats in Bo Bichette. Paired with fellow newcomer Marcus Semien, they should be able to put the ball in play way more often and tone down strikeouts.
Whether they'll also change their uniforms, however, remains to be seen.
