Chiefs owner Clark Hunt has seemingly made Travis Kelce decision amid uncertainty

The Kansas City Chiefs are still waiting to learn whether star tight end Travis Kelce will return to the club for another season or ride off into the sunset of retirement.

Some have suggested that Kansas City could improve on offense if Kelce retires before he turns 37 years old in October. During a Tuesday appearance on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football" program, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt made it known that he and others would happily welcome Kelce back for another campaign.

Chiefs owner Clark Hunt thinks Travis Kelce has plenty left in the tank

"Well, as an organization, we certainly hope that he will come back," Hunt said about Kelce, per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. "He had another great year, maybe not on par with where he was four or five years ago, but still had over 800 yards, and was really one of the leaders on the offensive side of the ball for us. So there’s no doubt in my mind that he can still play. We’re trying to be respectful and let him have the time that he needs to make a decision."

According to ESPN stats, Kelce led the Chiefs for this past regular season with 76 receptions, 108 targets and 851 receiving yards. He and two others tallied a team-best five receiving touchdowns.

However, the Chiefs ultimately endured a disappointing campaign that went from bad to worse when quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a torn ACL and torn LCL on Dec. 14. It's currently unknown if Mahomes will be able to play in Kansas City's regular-season opener this coming September.

Do Chiefs have a timeline in mind for Travis Kelce decision?

Kelce recently hinted that he would soon see returning offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy at the team's facility. That said, Kelce and entertainment superstar Taylor Swift are busy preparing for their upcoming wedding, which reportedly will take place in June 2026. It sounds like the Chiefs won't rush Kelce into declaring his plans for next season.

"He has sort of a busy offseason coming up with his engagement and marriage, so we want to be respectful and give him the time he needs to make a decision. But we certainly hope that he’ll be back," Hunt added while speaking about Kelce.

Kelce is in the final months of his contract, but Hunt's comments indicate that money won't be an issue if the future Hall of Famer wants to run it back with the Chiefs for another season. Perhaps Kelce will give a hint or two about his plans if he offers a response to Hunt during an upcoming podcast episode.
