It wasn't a completely smooth offseason for NASCAR Cup Series driver Chase Briscoe.
The 31-year-old driver from Mitchell, Ind., revealed that he was briefly hospitalized with an illness over the offseason in a Thursday interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
"We had the flu that I think everybody else had about the whole month of December, but outside that it was good," Briscoe said when asked about his offseason.
"It was about a month for me. It was terrible. I was in and out of the hospital twice with pneumonia and everything else. It was not fun. We're good to go now."
Briscoe started feeling ill toward the end of December and finally decided that he needed to go to the hospital.
"It was a long December for us," Briscoe said.
The good news? Briscoe and his family are now over the illness, and Briscoe himself is getting ready for his sixth Cup Series campaign and his second with Joe Gibbs Racing.
Briscoe won three Cup Series races in 2025 and made the Cup Series Championship 4. He finished third in the final Cup Series standings and should be considered a serious title threat this season, even under a different format. The Daytona 500 on Feb. 15 will mark Briscoe's 181st Cup Series start.
