Bucks may be shooting themselves in the foot with asking price for Giannis Antetokounmpo

For years, NBA fans and media have speculated about Giannis Antetokounmpo's future. Now, after years of early playoff exits, the former NBA champion is finally ready for a new challenge.

Antetokounmpo has reportedly informed the Milwaukee Bucks that he is ready to move on from the franchise. However, according to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Bucks' steep asking price for their superstar might make that a little tricky.

Bucks are "asking for the moon" in Giannis Antetokounmpo trade packages

"'They’re asking for the moon,’ one general manager told me on Thursday morning,” Stein wrote. “‘All of your young players and all of your draft picks.''"

That's probably not the right approach when discussing a player who wants to leave.

Granted, he doesn't have a no-trade clause, and they don't necessarily need to send him to his preferred trade destination. That said, his trade request, plus his recent history of injuries, most definitely takes a toll on his market value.

The Bucks are risking entering dangerous territory with their franchise player. We've seen how difficult things can get whenever a superstar is eager to force his way out of a team.

Antetokounmpo has tried to win the right way in Milwaukee. He even led them to their first championship in five decades. Now, like most stars in small markets, he's outgrown the organization, and he wants to spread his wings.

Injuries aside, he's still a top-10 player in the NBA, and it'll be interesting to see who's willing to go the extra mile to get him.
