Rapper Toosii will apparently not be playing college football at Syracuse this fall after all.
Toosii, whose real name is Nau’jour Grainger, backed out of his commitment based on a TikTok video he posted this week. He suggested that he only planned to go to Syracuse if he was offered a scholarship, but Syracuse coach Fran Brown had publicly said Grainger would be a walk-on.
“No coach, that ain’t what happened,” Grainger said. “I told you I wasn’t coming there no more, and you feel like you wanted to break the news first before I told people what school I was going to. (Brown) is a bozo for that.”
The 25-year-old had publicly committed to Syracuse late last year. He had other scholarship offers elsewhere, but Syracuse was the best one on the table, or so he thought.
Grainger gave up playing football at age 16 so he could focus on his music career, which has become a success. He has more than 3 million monthly subscribers on Spotify and has had multiple platinum singles. Toosii also has millions of followers combined across his social media accounts. It remains to be seen if he intends to latch on at a different school or will give up on playing college football entirely.
