Different kind of precipitation could push NASCAR Clash back even farther

After a snowstorm pushed NASCAR's Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium to Wednesday, a different kind of precipitation could affect the race on its new date.

Per AccuWeather, there is an 84 percent chance of rain showers on Wednesday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Roads and the racetrack might be clear, but rain, of course, isn't conducive to NASCAR racing.

NASCAR could use rain tires if needed

The good news? If the rain is light enough, NASCAR would have the option of using rain tires if necessary.

Assuming winter weather is no longer in the picture on Wednesday, and any rain isn't heavy, NASCAR could use rain tires at the 0.25-mile Bowman Gray Stadium. NASCAR can use rain tires in damp or light rain conditions at all road and street courses, as well as all ovals at or less than one mile in length.

That specification, of course, includes Bowman Gray.

NASCAR has previously used rain tires in damp conditions at both Richmond Raceway and New Hampshire Motor Speedway. With rain possible during Wednesday morning's practice and qualifying sessions and the evening's last-chance qualifier and 200-lap main event, they might have to be used again.

If the rain is significant, however, NASCAR might have to push the day's on-track activity back into the far hours of the evening or even push the race back to Thursday. The latter scenario would certainly not be ideal for teams that will need to start heading to Daytona Beach, Fla., early next week.

NASCAR pushed the Clash, which was first postponed to Monday, back to Wednesday in order to allow for safer travel for fans and teams affected by the weekend snowstorm in North Carolina.
