The top-ranked UConn Huskies went into the half tied at 42 with No. 15 Tennessee on Sunday, but it did not take long for the defending champions to put the game out of reach.
UConn outscored Tennessee, 54-24, in the second half and completely outmatched the Lady Vols in all phases in a 96-66 win to keep its undefeated season intact.
The Huskies shot 58 percent from the floor and 11-of-22 from long range and were led by their top-two scorers on the season, Sarah Strong (26 points, 10-of-18 FG, nine rebounds) and Azzi Fudd (27 points, 11-of-17 FG, seven rebounds, seven assists, four steals).
Everything is in front of the Huskies as they look to become the latest team in women's college basketball to go undefeated. One game removed from an uncharacteristic six points against Xavier - a game that saw sophomore Allie Ziebell tie a program record with 10 made threes - Fudd was instrumental to UConn's success.
This triple just over three minutes into the fourth quarter gave Fudd her latest 20-point game against a top-25 opponent as the Huskies started to put the game out of reach.

Not only was this the largest victory in series history between the two programs, but it was the last real challenge on UConn's schedule until March.
A 72-69 win over then-No. 6 Michigan on Nov. 21 is still the only game this season for UConn that has been decided by one score. The dominance in Big East play has been even greater with each of UConn's wins by at least 36 points.
Upsets happen and any team can get hot on any night, but it does not appear anything is standing in the Huskies' way of taking an undefeated record into postseason play. Villanova, the only other Big East team projected to be in the NCAA Tournament field according to ESPN's Charlie Creme, is a 10-seed, so the gap between UConn and everyone else in the conference is clear.
One reason the Huskies have been so difficult to defeat is because of their balance on both sides of the floor. UConn has the second-best offense in the country (90.2 PPG) to go along with the top-ranked defense (50.5 PPG), both of which were evident in the second-half onslaught against the Lady Vols.
There have been 10 instances of a team going undefeated for an entire season in the history of the sport. UConn has done so six times, followed by Baylor, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas, which have accomplished the feat once.
Even though UConn won the national title one season ago and put together a dominant run to get there, it still lost three games, one of which was to the Lady Vols.
The difficulty will only increase in March, but it is hard to see this UConn team losing before then, and maybe at any point at all. If the balance remains on both ends of the floor and the stars show up like they did on Sunday, an undefeated season cannot be ruled out.
