Lakers' Luka Doncic opens up about playing with LeBron James

Luka Doncic and LeBron James have been running the floor together for a full season now, and the pairing is starting to click in Los Angeles. The move created plenty of buzz when it happened, but Doncic has found his groove while sharing the load with James.

Plenty of fans doubted whether two stars of that caliber could share the same space. They have proven it can work. The Lakers have stayed competitive in the Western Conference despite ongoing defensive struggles that have not gone away.

A lot of the outside chatter has revolved around James, with some calling for him to retire or hand the keys over to Doncic completely. That's what made Doncic's recent comments stand out.

Luka Doncic explains what it's like to play with LeBron James

During an appearance on "Cousins' with Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady, he opened up about the early bumps, the adjustment period and how both players had to figure things out together.

"Just being like part of his journey, you know, it's been amazing. I came into the league like watching him play. My first game against him, like it was like a dream come true. Now, just being his teammate, it's insane," Doncic said.

"When he was injured in the beginning (of the 2025-26 season), after he came back, the first couple of games, it wasn't that good. But now, since we've played for a long time together, it's getting better and better."

When Doncic first joined the Lakers, most people expected some tension. Two elite minds running the show usually means some friction. But the chemistry showed up right away.

They have read each other well without much trouble, and watching two different generations mesh has been impressive, even if questions remain about longevity.

Los Angeles sits at 30-19 with Doncic putting up 33.4 points per game and James adding 22.0. They're sixth in the West and moving up.

But even when the fit works, it takes time for stars this big to find their full rhythm together.
