Nikola Jokic tying Oscar Robertson's triple-double mark reduces concerns about Nuggets' slump

The Denver Nuggets are now 1-3 since center Nikola Jokic returned from a left knee injury, but at least he's still racking up triple-doubles.

Jokic scored 30 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and tallied 10 assists in a 134-127 double overtime loss to the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night.

The 6-foot-11, 284-pound center is now tied with Hall of Fame guard Oscar Robertson for the second-most triple-doubles (181) in NBA history, behind Sacramento Kings guard Russell Westbrook (207).  Per The Athletic's Josh Robbins, 11-year veteran Jokic (781) reached the mark in fewer regular-season games than Robertson (1,039).

Jokic joined Robertson and Westbrook as the third player to average a triple-double in the regular season last season. He's on track to do it again. Entering Wednesday's game, the three-time league MVP was averaging 29.1 PPG, 10.5 APG and 12.1 RPG. If he continues to do so, the team shouldn't panic about its recent skid.

Nikola Jokic's dominance downplays concerns about Nuggets' slump

The Nuggets' (33-19) losses to the Oklahoma City Thunder (121-111) and the Detroit Pistons (124-121) aren't alarmingly bad. Entering Wednesday, the Thunder (40-12) were first in the Western Conference, while the Pistons (37-12) were first in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks (33-18), meanwhile, have now won eight straight games after their victory over Denver.

If Jokic looked hobbled or sluggish, it would be a significant concern for the Nuggets. However, he's playing like a future HOFer. During this span, he has recorded 23.3 PPG, 12 RPG and 7.3 APG (per StatMuse).

The Nuggets face the Chicago Bulls (24-27) in a road matchup on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET. As of Wednesday night, ESPN Analytics gives Denver a 77% chance to win.

Saturday's game clearly gives Denver an opportunity to rebound and for Jokic to grab another triple-double.
