While speaking with reporters at his Las Vegas Raiders introductory news conference on Tuesday, recently hired head coach Klint Kubiak shared that he wants Maxx Crosby "to be a part of our success going forward" amid trade rumors regarding the star pass-rusher.
Also on Tuesday, Raiders principal owner Mark Davis sent a strong message to teams that may be interested in acquiring Crosby this offseason.
"Maxx has been a great, great Raider. He is a great Raider," Davis said, per Ryan McFadden of ESPN. "He's gone through a lifetime of development here for seven or eight years, and he still is a Raider. So, it's all good."
Crosby has been only a Raider since the franchise drafted him in 2019, but it's unclear if that will remain the case through the spring and summer months. His unhappiness over being shut down by the team for the remainder of the season in late December because of a knee injury sparked multiple reports claiming that he wants no part of the franchise's latest rebuild. One recent story said that Crosby has informed team minority owner Tom Brady that "he will never play for the Raiders again."
Crosby has yet to publicly confirm he wants out, and he signed a three-year, $106.5M contract extension last offseason. On Tuesday, Davis was asked if he and Crosby have sat down to discuss the 28-year-old's future with the team.
"No, I do not talk about that [with Crosby,] and I would not talk about it [publicly] if I did," Davis explained, per Ezekiel Trezevant of Sports Illustrated. "What I talk about in the locker room stays in the locker room."
On Wednesday morning, Chad Graff of The Athletic mentioned that a team would "probably" have to give up at least two first-round draft picks to acquire Crosby this offseason. Kubiak and Davis gave no indication that Crosby will be any cheaper, and it seems as if a divorce isn't imminent heading into the halfway point of February.
