Syracuse Orange athletic director John Wildhack has been on the job for a decade.
A decade has been long enough for him, though, especially because Wilhack, 67, spent over 30 years working as an executive at ESPN before the Orange poached him in 2016.
Speaking of ESPN, it's Pete Thamel of ESPN who is reporting the news of Wildhack's retirement, though the school also released a statement.
"It has been the greatest honor of my career to lead Syracuse Athletics," said Wildhack. "Syracuse University shaped the trajectory of my life, and to spend nearly a decade serving my alma mater has been an extraordinary privilege. I'm proud of what we've accomplished: championship-caliber facilities, record academic achievement and student-athletes excelling on and off the field. I came here with a tremendous sense of responsibility and leave with profound gratitude for the opportunity to give back to the place that gave me so much."
Wildhack's retirement will become effective on July 1 of this year.

A 1980 Syracuse graduate, Wildhack accomplished a lot for the Orange. He upgraded the JMA Wireless Dome, and the Syracuse men's soccer team won a national title in 2022.
The football program has improved because of the hiring of Fran Brown, but the basketball program has taken a step back since Jim Boeheim retired in 2023. At the time of this writing, head basketball coach Adrian Autry's overall record is 47-42 (22-29 ACC).
The Orange are facing a time of change, as they're also looking to replace Chancellor Kent Syverud, who was recently elected to be the next president at the University of Michigan.
At ESPN, Wildhack started as a production assistant and rose up the ranks all the way to becoming the executive vice president for programming and production.
He produced ESPN's first live college football game in 1984 and ESPN's first NFL game in 1987.
Wildhack is, without a doubt, a legend of the sports world.
