Chris Paul ended his NBA career with a whimper rather than a bang, and fans aren’t happy about it.
The 12-time All-Star on Friday officially announced his retirement from the NBA. Paul shared the news with a statement posted on his social media accounts.
Paul was widely expected to retire at season’s end. However, the process was expedited after his relationship with the Los Angeles Clippers turned sour, resulting in the team parting ways with Paul ahead of the trade deadline.
Some wondered whether the situation would push Paul to sign with a playoff-bound team to give it one final go before he retired. Paul put an end to those discussions on Friday.
While Paul didn’t speak ill of the Clippers in his farewell message, fans made sure to do it for him. Several voices expressed their disdain for how the Clippers handled Paul’s final year.
Chris Paul deserved so much better of an ending. The Clippers should be ashamed for how they ended things. https://t.co/78WMC11JQ6

I am NEVER going to forgive everyone involved with the Clippers for this. CHris Paul was a PHENOMENAL player, a Hall of Famer, the Point God, awesome on and off the court, a real leader.

And they did this to him.
I hope Chris Paul is ok. He probably had high hopes for his retirement tour but he played for the wrong team. Clippers have proven they don’t give a single fck about their legends. Genuinely feel really bad for him. Still, congrats on a great career.

Paul was one of the greatest players of his generation, but did not get the retirement tour one would expect for a player of his stature. Fans are even more upset that he was treated that way by the Clippers, and organization that gained relevance in the 2010s in large part thanks to Paul.
Paul spent seven seasons with the Clippers, the longest tenure of his 21-year NBA career. While the “Point God” will no longer be threatening to shoot elbow jumpers in any arenas near you, he probably won’t be away from TV screens for long. Paul may already have his next gig lined up.
