Even though the Major League Baseball Draft is months away (July 12-13), college and high school baseball is ramping up, and prospects are already making cases to be drafted.
One prospect who will potentially be available during this year's draft is Baylor University’s Tyce Armstrong, who kicked off the Bears' season opener Friday by hitting three grand slams in the game.
Armstrong is only the second player in college baseball to hit three grand slams in one game, with the University of Louisville’s Jim LaFountain also hitting three (two in the same inning) in 1976 against Western Kentucky.
In Baylor’s route 15-2 rout of New Mexico State, Armstrong accounted for 12 RBI and scored three runs. The Bears also got a solid pitching performance from their staff, which allowed three hits, three walks, and struck out 10.
In the context of Major League Baseball, the last player to hit two grand slams in a game was the Minnesota Twins' Josh Willingham in 2009.

A first baseman primarily, Armstrong has also played the corner outfield spots during his collegiate career. After having a breakout season with the University of Texas at Arlington, hitting .319 with an OPS of .970 and 12 home runs in 54 games, Armstrong is on pace with his performance to eclipse those numbers and increase his draft stock.
The Chicago White Sox hold the first pick in this year's draft, with the Tampa Bay Rays going second. Both need a first baseman, with Munetaka Murakami only signed for two years ($34M) for the White Sox, and the Rays' Yandy Diaz (34) entering the latter stages of his career and a free agent after the 2028 season. Armstrong could potentially serve as a right-handed power hitter to help one of those franchises move forward in its respective rebuild.
