After losing the World Series to the Texas Rangers in 2023, the Arizona Diamondbacks have missed the playoffs for the past two seasons and took a further step back in 2025 (80-82) due to injury.
The Diamondbacks still will be dealing with injuries to open the season, with ace right-hander Corbin Burnes recovering from Tommy John surgery and outfielder Corbin Carroll dealing with a hamate bone injury. Regardless of injury, the Diamondbacks will be one team in the National League that will give the Los Angeles Dodgers a fight, with Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick stating he’s willing to go "all in" again to compete with them.
"What percentage of your revenue are you spending on your team?" Kendrick asked at a news conference on Sunday. "And we were in the top five in all of baseball last year. And lo and behold, we're back in that spot. Probably it's all the beginning isn't over, but we're probably gonna be in that spot with the money that we're spending. But I want to succeed, I want to win. I want to spend the money that we have, and maybe then some. And now figures in a row we've done it last year didn't work out like we would have wanted. I think we can all acknowledge significant beyond norm injury was a factor. But you know, you don't cry when you have injury, because it's part of the game. And this year, we kind of have the circumstance of those guys that we lost last year injury are you almost think of them as the reserve group that's come along later in the year. And I feel like when we get everybody healthy, which I will be, well, we're gonna be a highly competitive team, and getting ourselves from day one to the point where all the injured guys are back is gonna be challenging. The Dodgers are the Dodgers, and the league is the league. And I feel like we owe it to the fans to go all in to the degree we can, and hopefully our investment will pay off."
The Diamondbacks increased their payroll again, extending the budget well beyond the club anticipated.

Starting the year down two of their best players puts the Diamondbacks behind the eight ball. However, they did re-sign right-hander Zac Gallen to add to their starting rotation, and he will give them one of the best 1-3 starters in the National League: 1) Burnes, 2) Merrill Kelly and 3) Gallen. Gallen has spent nearly his entire career in the desert, going 66-52 with a 3.58 ERA in 176 games.
Carroll will miss roughly six weeks as he recovers from his hamate bone injury, putting his timeline of return in early April. Once Carroll returns, the Diamondbacks will have one of the better lineups in the National League to compete with the Dodgers. The Diamondbacks have perennial MVP candidates all over their lineup in second baseman Ketel Marte (22nd in MVP voting in 2025), shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (fourth in MVP voting in 2025) and even newly acquired third baseman Nolan Arenado, who, with a change of scenery, could revert to being an MVP once again.
