Cameron Boozer joins elite company as Duke dominates Syracuse

With legends in attendance, the Duke Blue Devils flexed their muscles all night long Monday in a big win over a struggling Syracuse team.

Cameron Boozer carried the load for Duke in such a way that he's approaching history. In Duke's 101-64 victory, Boozer scored 22 points in 25 minutes of action.

But his point total doesn't come close to telling the story of Boozer's game. He recorded a double-double by also adding in 12 rebounds while also tallying a pair of assists.

Duke's Cameron Boozer has joined some elite company

Boozer has now led both teams in points and total rebounds 11 times this season, making him only the third true freshman to outproduce everyone in both categories in a game as many times in the last 30 years. Only Michael Beasley (18 times in 2007-08) and Kevin Durant (12 times in 2006-07) did it more often as a true freshman.

And while Boozer has scored more in past games, his 80% shooting clip from the field marks his most efficient game of the season against a major conference opponent and second most overall. Boozer was 8-for-10 from the field, with a 10-for-12 outing on Nov. 23 against Howard as his only better shooting performance.

Cameron Boozer put his skills on display in front of legendary names

Even though Duke was supposed to beat Syracuse convincingly, Boozer was able to show off in front legendary names on both sides. Former Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski and Basketball Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony were at Cameron Indoor Stadium to see Boozer in action.

Obviously, Krzyzewski has an eye for talent, having led Duke to five national titles from 1980-2022. Anthony was there to watch his son, Kiyan, play for Syracuse, the same program he carried to a national championship in 2003. Anthony played against Cameron's father, Carlos, as their NBA careers overlapped throughout the early and mid 2000s.

Last year's freshman sensation and fellow Blue Devil turned top NBA draft pick Cooper Flagg was also in the crowd.

Cameron Boozer is on the verge of averaging a double-double for the season

Before dominating Syracuse, Boozer had averages of 22.9 points, 9.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists through 25 games, giving him an opportunity to average a double-double for the season.

Now at 24-2 and ranked as the No. 3 team in the country, Duke is a legitimate national championship contender in large part due to Boozer's dominance as he vies for the honor of National Player of the Year and being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
