Former All-Star OF Michael Conforto could bounce back with Astros

The Houston Astros have been looking for a left-handed hitting outfielder throughout the offseason. They may have an interesting target in mind.

Brian McTaggart from MLB.com reported that the Astros have "expressed interest" in free-agent outfielder Michael Conforto. He also reported that the chances that the Astros trade third baseman Isaac Paredes are "diminishing."

Conforto had been a solid outfielder during his time with the Mets between 2015 and 2021. A 2017 All-Star, Conforto posted a .255/.356/.468 batting line with 132 homers and 141 doubles over his 2,980 plate appearances in that timeframe.

Michael Conforto could be interesting reclamation project for Houston Astros

Everything fell apart after the 2021 season. Conforto missed all of 2022 due to surgery on his right shoulder, which he injured working out during the 2021-22 offseason. He has not been the same player since. Conforto was one of the worst players in the majors in 2025, posting a .199/.305/.333 batting line in 486 plate appearances with the Dodgers, hitting 12 homers and 20 doubles.

As Conforto will be 33 years old for the 2026 season, it is possible he could return to being a productive option in the outfield. He has continued to get on base and draw walks at a strong pace. A swing adjustment, as Conforto has seen his line drive rate drastically decrease over the past three years, could get him on track.

Chances are, the Astros would be able to sign Conforto to an affordable one-year deal. With Yordan Alvarez as the only established left-handed hitting option in the outfield, Conforto could have an opportunity in Houston.
