On Friday night, Anthony Edwards provided another example of why some feel he's on track to own the NBA for years to come. Edwards put up 40 points while leading the Minnesota Timberwolves to their 35th win of the season.
In Minnesota's 122-111 win over the Dallas Mavericks, Edwards had one of his best outings of the 2025-26 season in his first game after the All-Star break. He shot 53.3% from the field, connecting on 16-of-39 and even sinking five threes.
Edwards' 40-point night marked his 27th game with at least 40 points in his career. And midway through his sixth NBA season, Edwards already has 14 more 40-point performances than any other player in Timberwolves' history - Karl Anthony-Towns is second with 13.
He now has eight 40-point games this season, with his season-high and also career-high coming on Jan. 17 when he exploded for 55 points against the San Antonio Spurs.

Taking his game to another level, the four-time All-Star and 2026 All-Star Game MVP is putting together a season that would stand as his best yet. Playing 35.5 minutes per game, Edwards is averaging 29.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 47 games so far.
Edwards entered the 2025-26 campaign having posted a 27.6 scoring average last season, his best for a full season to date.
But the reason for upping his individual game is to get his team over the hump. Led by Edwards, the Timberwolves reached the Western Conference Finals in each of the past two seasons, failing to get to the NBA Finals both years.
It's all about winning for Edwards.

Thanks to Edwards' latest monster game, Minnesota is 35-22, which is good enough for fifth in a crowded Western Conference.
