The idea of Tyreek Hill reuniting with the Kansas City Chiefs has gained traction over the last week. The Miami Dolphins recently released the five-time All-Pro receiver in a move aimed at freeing up salary-cap space, despite extending him on a four-year, $120 million contract in 2022.
Hill is rehabbing from a dislocated knee and torn ACL, and given his age and the severity of the injury, the Dolphins' decision wasn't entirely surprising. But a player with Hill's resume does not stay on the market without attracting attention, and Kansas City quickly emerged as a possible destination.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the speculation during his Friday media session, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
"I don't even know if Tyreek is healthy right now to do anything," Reid said. "So I'm sure he's working hard on that part of it and trying to get that part all straightened out. Listen, we talk about everything.”
“There's nothing happening there, but we know that you know – that he's out there and cranking away, trying to get himself back to where he can play, period."
Asked today how he would evaluate a reunion with free-agent WR Tyreek Hill, Andy Reid told reporters: “I don’t even know if Tyreek (Hill) is healthy right now to do anything. Reid's comments don't exactly signal an imminent reunion. Kansas City cleared more than $40 million in cap space after restructuring Patrick Mahomes' contract, but the front office appears more focused on maintaining roster balance than swinging for big-name additions.
Committing significant resources to a speed-based receiver recovering from a serious leg injury comes with obvious risk.
That said, the appeal of bringing Hill back is not hard to understand. During his time in Kansas City from 2016 to 2021, Hill put up 6,630 receiving yards and 62 total touchdowns.
Few players had that kind of impact on the Chiefs offense. Reid didn't completely shut down the possibility, leaving the door cracked if circumstances change.
Hill's injury happened in Week 4 of the 2025 season, ending his year early. It came after a 2024 campaign that already marked a downturn, with Hill finishing with 81 receptions, 959 yards and six touchdowns.
