Victor Wembanyama creates buzz for future Dunk Contest with latest big game

Continuing their most recent win streak on Saturday night, the San Antonio Spurs have now won eight in a row. The Spurs' latest triumph came by putting up a season-high point total on the Sacramento Kings in a 139-122 win.

More so than just getting the win, San Antonio's 40th of the season, the conversation after the game was about Victor Wembanyama's performance. And as par for the course during the Spurs' wins, Wembanyama went wild once again.

Victor Wembanyama did it all against the Kings

The No. 1 overall pick from the 2023 NBA Draft scored 28 points in 30 minutes of action. He posted a double-double by adding 15 rebounds, six assists and four blocks to his box score.

Wembanyama was 11-of-20 from the field for an impressive 55% shooting night. He was also 1-of-5 from three.

But as dominant as Wembanyama was, one play stands out more than any other and sparked a big reaction across social media.

Wembanyama's dunk became the talk of the night

With about 9:40 left in the fourth quarter, Wembanyama drove all the way from beyond the arc to the basket, bringing the house down with a monster dunk.

Of course, this prompted many to suggest he needs to enter a future NBA Dunk Contest, especially if the league hopes to save a fading event that has fallen out of favor with fans due to the lack of true star power competing.

Will we see him in a future Dunk Contest?

Wembanyama gave a foreshadowing answer when asked directly about the prospects of seeing him in a future Dunk Contest.

"I'll be in the dunk contest one day."

Through 42 games so far, Wembanyama holds averages of 24.3 points, 11.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.

With the win, the Spurs are now 40-16 and in firm possession of the second seed in the Western Conference.

So before Wembanyama can dunk in an All-Star event, he will have a chance to get off the ground in the playoffs, and doing so on the postseason stage will be what will truly take his star power to another galaxy, something fitting of his "alien" moniker.
