Joey Logano breaks a NASCAR record formerly held by Richard Petty at Atlanta

Three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Joey Logano broke a record held by NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty on Sunday in the Autotrader 400 at EchoPark Speedway.

By leading a lap on Sunday, Logano broke Petty's record of leading at least one lap in 20 straight drafting track races. Logano tied Petty's record of leading a lap in 19 speedway races in the Daytona 500 on Feb. 15.

Petty won a record seven Daytona 500s during his legendary NASCAR Cup Series career that included a record 200 wins and seven championships.

Logano finished third in the Daytona 500 and was second in the Cup Series standings entering Sunday's race.

Joey Logano fast in Stage 1 at Atlanta

Logano led laps in Stage 1 before fading late in the stage and finishing eighth, scoring three stage points.

Logano's Team Penske teammate in Austin Cindric charged from 30th to the lead in Stage 1, taking the stage win. Another Penske driver in Ryan Blaney briefly ran inside the top 10 in Stage 1, while Penske-affiliated driver Josh Berry also ran up front before a Lap 84 crash took him out of the race.

Logano has won twice at the reconfigured, superspeedway-esque version of Atlanta that debuted in the spring of 2022.
