Saquon Barkley reacts to having third offensive coordinator in three years with Eagles

For the third time in three years, star running back Saquon Barkley will have a different offensive coordinator with the Philadelphia Eagles after the Eagles replaced the much-maligned Kevin Patullo with former Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion.

During a recent appearance on NFL Network, Barkley opened up about his expectations for what the Eagles offense will be under its new OC.

Saquon Barkley: Offensive changes could be "refreshing" for Eagles

"I'm super excited about it," Barkley explained, per Bobby Kownack of the NFL's website. "I'm going on Year 9, which is crazy to say, and I've had a lot of different coaches and head coaches and been a part of a lot of systems. I don't think I really came across a system like this. For me, it's refreshing. You get something new. You get to learn something new."

The StatMuse website shows that Barkley ended the 2024 regular season with a league-best 2,283 total yards from scrimmage en route to winning the NFL Offensive Player of the Year Award while playing under then-OC Kellen Moore, who left the Eagles to become head coach of the New Orleans Saints last February. To compare, Barkley was 15th in the league with 1,413 total yards from scrimmage this past regular season.

According to ESPN stats, the Eagles finished Week 18 ranked 24th in the NFL with an average of 311.2 total yards gained per game.

What went wrong for Eagles offense this past season?

"At the end of the day, we just weren't consistent enough throughout games," Barkley said about the struggles the Philadelphia offense endured with Patullo serving as the club's offensive coordinator. "That's something that we have to challenge ourselves to get ready for next year."

Barkley also acknowledged that winning the Super Bowl in back-to-back seasons is "really hard." While the 2025 Eagles went 11-6 as the reigning Super Bowl champions, they suffered a 23-19 home loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

"Every team, every year is building up and getting ready to perform and compete for a Super Bowl, and we've got to do the same thing," Barkley added during the segment.

It remains to be seen if wide receiver A.J. Brown, who has been the subject of trade rumors, will still be with the Eagles when Mannion works his first meaningful game in his new role later this year.
