Oregon State parts ways with long-time hoops coach Wayne Tinkle

Wayne Tinkle has been the head men's basketball coach for the Oregon State Beavers since 2014.

That's 12 years with the program, and that's an eternity in college sports. Usually, if a coach is at a school for more than 10 years, they're entering legend territory.

Unfortunately for the Beavers, Tinkle hasn't gotten much traction over the years. He's taken Oregon State to the NCAA Tournament just twice and his team is currently 16-14 with one game to go.

As such, Oregon State, currently in the West Coast Conference after the implosion of the Pac-12, has decided to go in a different direction.

It's being reported that Tinkle will not be asked to return next season.

"We are grateful to Wayne for his dedication to Oregon State and for the leadership he has provided our men's basketball program," athletic director Barnes said in a release to ESPN. "He has represented Beaver Nation with integrity and commitment. As we approach the dawn of the new Pac-12 era, we believe it is in the best interest of our men's basketball program to transition to its next chapter. These decisions are never easy, but we are focused on positioning our program for sustained success in a rapidly evolving collegiate athletics landscape."

As mentioned, the Beavers took shelter in the WCC when the Pac-12 imploded, but they are expected to be a Pac-12 program once again next season.

It's still the Pac-12, but it looks a lot different. Alongside Oregon State, new members of the new-look Pac-12 include Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, San Diego State, Texas State, Utah State and Washington State.

Tinkle, 60, went 176-204 during his 12 seasons with Oregon State.

He has been asked by the school to finish the season with the Beavers, but a decision on that matter has not been made yet by him.
