NASCAR Cup Series driver Alex Bowman struggled on Sunday at Circuit of the Americas and felt sick throughout Sunday's race.
Bowman repeatedly said over the radio as the race neared 20 laps to go that he felt like he might need to get out of his No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. When he did, he found a relief driver in an unusual place.
Myatt Snider, a former NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series winner with a combined 148 starts in NASCAR's O'Reilly and Truck Series to his name, stepped in for Bowman and finished the race.
But what was unusual about the situation is that Snider, who is yet to officially make a Cup Series start, was serving as the pit spotter for NASCAR on FOX pit reporter Jamie Little, helping Little receive and process information throughout the race.

Snider had a helmet and firesuit handy and was able to get into the No. 48 Chevy and finish the race. Bowman was credited with a 36th-place finish, as the driver that start the race is the one who receives the points.
Bowman has struggled to open the 2026 season and is last (36th) in points among full-time drivers, receiving just 23 points through three races.
