Toronto Maple Leafs forward Bobby McMann finally broke his silence on all the trade speculation that has surrounded him in recent days.
McMann, 29, said his time in Toronto during his career has been nothing but fun so far, but that he's keeping his focus on battling and making the most of his opportunity as the trade deadline gets closer.
"I mean, that's hard to put into words," McMann said on Monday. "Not really necessarily trying to speculate on officially leaving either. I wanna just battle here, and it's been fun my whole career… working my way into the NHL here and given the opportunity."
"I want to make the most of it and continue to put my best effort forward no matter the situation."
Last week, journalist David Pagnotta reported that Toronto was in contract talks with McMann, who also has been linked to the Edmonton Oilers.
However, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed on Saturday that the forward still has possibilities of being traded, as his future is not closed.
"The fact that he's still a Maple Leaf tells me there's nothing out there that they would trade him for at this point in time. We'll see where it goes over the next six days, but I'm told that one could go in either direction," Friedman said.
McMann has recorded 32 points (19 goals and 13 assists) in 59 games this season. To tell the truth, these are quite competitive numbers for a middle-six center. His production becomes even more relevant given the team's heavy reliance on Auston Matthews, William Nylander and John Tavares.
The Canadian forward is in the second and final year of his deal with a cap hit of $1.35 million.
