Bills GM expands on Keon Coleman plans after controversial Terry Pegula comments

Buffalo Bills general manager and president of football operations Brandon Beane suggested recently that wide receiver Keon Coleman will "have every chance" to stay with the club from the start of springtime workouts through at least the beginning of the 2026 season.

Coleman's future was a talking point even before Bills owner Terry Pegula shockingly said during a January news conference that former head coach Sean McDermott was responsible for the club acquiring the 22-year-old with the 33rd overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. During an appearance on NFL Network, Beane addressed Coleman's relationship with new head coach Joe Brady, who was previously Buffalo's offensive coordinator on McDermott's staff.

Keon Coleman getting "full reset" with Bills?

"It's been good," Beane explained, according to Bobby Kownack of the NFL's website. "We got a new wide receiver coach, as well, Drew Terrell, that's very excited. Pete Carmichael's our new OC. Pete, those guys, all watched [Coleman] and they were like, 'Man, I'm looking forward to working with him.' I think there's a new energy, and its Year 3, and we're gonna hit the full reset with Keon."

Both Brady and star quarterback Josh Allen have publicly backed Coleman even though the receiver was disciplined, benched and made a healthy scratch multiple times across his first two NFL seasons. Some believe that the Bills will be among the teams that attempt to acquire Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown if he becomes available. However, it sounds like Buffalo and other clubs aren't in a hurry to match Philadelphia's reported asking price for Brown.

It's unclear if the Bills making such an offseason splash could impact whether or not they hold onto Coleman.

"All hands on deck" for Bills to get the most out of Keon Coleman

Across the first 26 career regular-season games of his career, Coleman recorded 67 receptions for 960 yards and eight touchdowns. Beane seems to think the future is bright for Coleman despite all that went wrong for the promising prospect over the past two campaigns.

"Keon had a very good offseason last year, and honestly, he had a very good training camp," Beane added. "We played the Ravens that first game. He had 100 and whatever yards, and just some things from a maturity standpoint after that, but Keon has said all the right things. I give him this. He's very accountable. He's never made excuses. We're all hands on deck. We're all going to do our part. And I know Joe and those new coaches are very excited for what is in store for Year 3."

Beane presumably understands that Coleman likely wouldn't be worth much as a tradeable asset this spring. Thus, it would behoove all involved if Coleman stays on his best behavior and becomes a key contributor for the Buffalo offense through at least January 2027.
