Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones generated headlines when he said that he "would bet that we will spend more money in free agency than we have" in previous years.
While speaking with reporters at a charity event on Wednesday, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott responded to Jones' claim.
"Heck yeah, most definitely…" Prescott said about being hyped to hear Jones' comments, per Tommy Yarrish of the Cowboys' website. "Especially when he said…no redshirts."
The Cowboys went 7-9-1 in their first season under head coach Brian Schottenheimer after Jones traded star pass-rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in late August 2025. Dallas is one of a handful of teams that have been linked with Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders, who signed a three-year, $106.5M contract extension last offseason.
Additionally, the Cowboys may pursue current Cincinnati Bengals pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson once the "legal tampering" portion of free agency gets underway at noon ET on March 9.
Of course, the Cowboys need to bolster more than just one aspect of their defense. In February, Josh Edwards of CBS Sports mentioned that Dallas needs help at linebacker, cornerback and safety. The Cowboys could also sign wide receiver George Pickens to a multiyear deal this spring or summer, but they seem ready to have him play on the franchise tag worth around $27.3M next season.
"We got a coach in his second year," Prescott added. "We had some ups and downs and shined some good moments last year. This is the year that you make a big jump, and getting big-time players who can help immediately is a part of that."
Actions speak louder than words, so it remains to be seen if Jones will be as active as Dallas fans hope next week. As ESPN's Todd Archer noted, the Cowboys recently freed up around $66M in salary-cap space by restructuring the contracts of Prescott, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and left guard Tyler Smith.
