The Kansas City Chiefs parted ways with one of their most valuable assets.
Star cornerback Trent McDuffie was a salary-cap casualty after failing to work out a new deal with the team.
The Chiefs unsuccessfully tried to sign him to an extension last season, and he'll now get a new contract with the Los Angeles Rams.
Of course, that move didn't sit well with Patrick Mahomes and most Chiefs fans. Now, NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo reports that the star quarterback wasn't the only player who resented this decision.
"Folks on the defensive side of the ball (are) not happy as well," Garafolo said on "Good Morning Football." "It's a tough one for what Trent McDuffie meant to that defense."
The Chiefs now have to figure out what to do with Jaylen Watson. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is usually great at patching things up and keeping the ship together regardless of who's in town, as he showed when they traded L'Jarius Snead.
That said, McDuffie is one of the most disruptive defensive backs in the league, as shown by his 34 pass breakups in his four years in the league.
The former Super Bowl champion leaves Kansas City with two All-Pro selections and more questions than answers at a position of need.
And with their desperate need to bounce back after a disappointing 2025, it seems that GM Brett Veach will face plenty of pressure -- both inside and outside the building -- to retool this aging roster.
