Ty Gibbs comes up short of first career NASCAR Cup Series win at Phoenix

Ty Gibbs could taste a victory in Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at Phoenix Raceway, which would've been his first career win in 124 starts.

Gibbs led on the final restart but was passed for the lead by Ryan Blaney and eventually slipped to fourth, turning what could've been a career-changing day into just a solid points day.

"We were really good today," Gibbs told Fox Sports. "I don't know, that's unfortunate. We'll keep rolling. I think I could've done some things better. I'm with the right guys, that makes a difference. Really happy with my team. We all believe in each other."

Ty Gibbs has momentum

Sunday marks the second consecutive fourth-place result for Gibbs, who also finished fourth on March 1 at COTA. Two straight top-five finishes have Gibbs 15th in the Cup Series standings, a far cry from the 33rd-place spot he found himself in after Atlanta.

"I had a lot of fun," Gibbs said. "Sucks we didn't win. We had a lot of fun racing out there."

Gibbs' recent hot streak comes as Joe Gibbs Racing battles in court with former crew chief and competition director Chris Gabehart, who called Ty Gibbs out in court documents after working with him during the second half of the 2025 season.
