The Dallas Cowboys didn't wait much to address their pass-rushing needs.
Jerry Jones' team agreed to a trade for Green Bay Packers DE Rashan Gary, who was expected to be released as a salary-cap casualty at some point.
The Cowboys didn't have to give up valuable trade compensation, according to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, to get a former No. 12 pick.
"Trade! The Dallas Cowboys are trading for Packers DL Rashan Gary, sources tell The Athletic. Dallas bolsters its pass rush with the addition of the 2019 first-round pick. The Packers will receive a 2027 Day 3 pick in return," Russini wrote on X.
However, even though the value looks great on the surface, this may have pretty much ruled them out from pursuing Trey Hendrickson.
The Cowboys barely missed out on Maxx Crosby and were expected to pivot to Trey Hendrickson, the second-biggest name in the pass-rushing market. Now that Gary will join the team, it's hard to believe they will even consider making that move.
Gary can play all over the defensive line, but the Cowboys already have a trio of defensive tackles, all making north of $20 million. As such, Gary will most likely play on the edge.
Granted, he's three years younger than Hendrickson, but he's never been the same type of top-tier pass-rusher as the former Cincinnati Bengals standout.
The Cowboys will likely continue to bolster Christian Parker's defense after ranking near the bottom in most major defensive categories last season, but it looks like they won't take the big swing Jones promised the fans.
