Five undervalued players still remaining after first day of free agency

The 2026 NFL free agency window is open, with legal tampering and plenty of deals already agreed. The headlines focus on marquee names like Malik Willis and Alec Pierce, who are receiving massive deals. Yet smart franchises win by landing high-upside contributors on team-friendly contracts. This year’s class lacks elite star power at the top but offers deep value in the middle and bottom tiers. Here are five undervalued free agents who could deliver starter production without breaking the bank.

Five undervalued free agents remaining:

Leo Chenal, LB (Kansas City Chiefs)

Athletic, instinctive sideline-to-sideline playmaker with the ability to tackle in space. Young (25) and versatile under Steve Spagnuolo, poised for expanded duties without premium linebacker pricing.

Potential landing spots: Denver Broncos (Released Dre Greenlaw/coverage upgrade), New York Jets (scheme fit), and Carolina Panthers (need)

Luke Fortner, C (New Orleans Saints)

The young center stepped up in 2025, ranking 17th among centers and sixth in pass-block win rate per PFF after a mid-season trade. With Tyler Linderbaum resetting the market after agreeing to a contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, Fortner offers athletic, scheme-versatile interior line help at roughly half the cost. Any team needing immediate center stability gets a proven, affordable starter.

Potential landing spots: Carolina Panthers (Overall fit), Houston Texans (interior upgrade), and Tennessee Titans (Scheme versatility).

Kaden Elliss, LB ( Atlanta Falcons)

One of the most consistently productive yet overlooked linebackers, the 31-year-old excels as a pass-rush specialist from the second level while racking up tackles and coverage snaps. His generation-long undervaluation continues—he’ll sign for far less than notable linebackers while delivering immediate impact plays and scheme flexibility.

Potential landing spots: Cleveland Browns (Fit with new DC), San Francisco 49ers (Reuniting with former HC), and Minnesota Vikings (Overall fit).

Calvin Austin III, WR ( Pittsburgh Steelers)

Austin needs a better schematic fit for his athletic ability and play style. He's a target who can stretch the field and become a solid rotational piece. Overall, he'll be an intriguing WR3/4 for a team looking for depth.

Potential landing spots: Indianapolis Colts (Pairing for Alec Pierce), Las Vegas Raiders (Scheme fit), and Kansas City Chiefs (Depth)

Greg Newsome II, CB ( Jacksonville Jaguars)

Newsome has flashed electric playmaking and starting ability, but has been highly inconsistent throughout his career. His length, athletic ability, and slot-capability will draw interest in a corner market that needs depth. In the right system, he could flourish in 2026.

Potential landing spots: Green Bay Packers (Scheme fit/Zone-heavy), Seattle Seahawks (Cheap veteran upside), and Las Vegas Raiders (Long-term potential)
