Five possible candidates to replace Bobby Hurley as Arizona State's head coach

Arizona State men's basketball plans to fire head coach Bobby Hurley after the 2025-26 season is over, according to reports from The Field of 68 and other media outlets.

Hurley would be at least the fourth head coach of a power-conference program to be let go, along with Kansas State's Jerome Tang, Georgia Tech's Damon Stoudamire and Boston College's Earl Grant.

Big 12 Conference member Arizona State went 16-15 overall and 7-11 in league play during the regular season. Now in his 11th campaign at the Sun Devils' helm, Hurley has gone a combined 184-166 in Tempe.

Five potential candidates for Arizona State HC job

Randy Bennett, Head Coach, Saint Mary's Gaels
2025-26 record: 27-5 overall, 16-2 in West Coast Conference
Bennett has done a fabulous job guiding the Gaels, a group that is No. 21 in the latest Associated Press Top 25. In his 25th season as Saint Mary's head coach, he is 589–227 overall and has taken the Gaels to 11 NCAA Tournaments. It's important to note that Bennett grew up in Mesa, Ariz.

Jerrod Calhoun, Head Coach, Utah State Aggies
2025-26 record: 25-6 overall, 15-5 in Mountain West Conference
Calhoun will be one of the most popular names in this offseason's coaching carousel. The Aggies won the Mountain West Conference regular-season title. In his first campaign at Utah State, Calhoun won 26 games, and he's likely to surpass that total in 2025-26.

Bryce Drew, Head Coach, Grand Canyon Antelopes
2025-26 record: 20-11 overall, 13-7 in Mountain West Conference
Drew has sported a combined 140-51 mark in his six seasons leading Grand Canyon, a program that is located in Phoenix and has made four Big Dances during his tenure. Drew has reached three more NCAA Tournaments between his head coaching stops at Valparaiso and Vanderbilt.

Greg McDermott, Head Coach, Creighton Bluejays
2025-26 record: 15-16 overall, 9-11 in Big East Conference
The Bluejays have struggled this season; however, McDermott owns a 365-187 record at Creighton. He's guided the Bluejays to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances over 16 seasons, highlighted by a journey to the 2023 Elite Eight. Including his time as the head coach at Northern Iowa and Iowa State, McDermott has been to 13 Big Dances.

Eric Olen, Head Coach, New Mexico Lobos
2025-26 record: 22-9 overall, 13-7 in Mountain West Conference
Olen is in his first campaign as New Mexico's head coach, and he's done wonders in Albuquerque, although the Lobos likely need to win the Mountain West Conference Tournament to get into the 2026 March Madness. Before joining New Mexico, Olen served as the head coach of Big West Conference school UC San Diego, which went 81-63 overall in his five seasons there, including a 30-5 record and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2024-25.
