Warriors coach Steve Kerr believes the NBA should seriously consider shortening the regular season.
Speaking about the physical demands of today’s game, Kerr said the league would benefit from reducing the 82-game schedule.
“We need to play fewer games,” Kerr told reporters. “We need to take 10 games off the schedule. The modern game with the pace and the space I think it would be a more competitive and healthier league if we played fewer games.”
Kerr pointed to how the style of play has evolved across the NBA. Teams now operate with far more pace, movement and spacing than in previous eras — which can place additional strain on players over the course of a long season.
The topic of schedule length has been debated around the league for years, particularly as injuries and load management have become more common.

Some around the NBA have suggested a shorter schedule could improve player health while also increasing the intensity of regular-season games.
Of course, this would also mean less money for everyone. So while Kerr keeps beating this drum, don’t expect things to change anytime soon.
Word is, team owners and TV execs want it to remain 82. And as the people with the deepest pockets, they usually get their way.
